CTSCC YEAR IN REVIEW FOR 2011

Closing Thoughts from 2011 the Connecticut Chair
What a year it has been for the CT-SCC!! There were many highlights
for our chapter in 2011.
Our first meeting of the year was met with a terrific ice-storm. What
else would you expect in January in Connecticut!?!? The roads were
terrible, people were asking if the meeting was cancelled. Despite the
weather, Perry Romanowski (aka “The Joggler”) flew in to speak for our
chapter and delivered a fascinating presentation on how to use the
internet to become a better formulator. At that meeting, we also had
vendor tables and presented the 2010 Chapter Merit Award to Cynthia
Valovich.
In March, we had Craig Weiss from the Consumer Product Testing
Company speak for us about “Claims Support and Testing Lab
Responsibility”. The April meeting featured Carla Perez from Seppic
where we learned about Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation…and
how to fight it!!
You never know what kind of weather you are going to have in April,
but the sun was shining bright for us during our 3rd Annual Golf Outing
at Great River Golf Club on April 25th. We had such a great group of
people out on the golf course and a fun dinner in the clubhouse –
great company and great prizes!! We look forward to another great
outing in 2012.
In June, we were fortunate to have a full day SCC course led by Robert
Lochhead, Ph.D. on “The Science and Technology of Human Hair”. We
had great attendance from our chapter and learned a lot from this
industry expert.
After a brief summer hiatus, we resumed with our schedule in the
Fall. We held our Annual Scientific Seminar in September. featuring
our keynote speaker Robert C. Fry from Dupont. Mr. Fry spoke about
the “Outlook for the US and Global Economy”. Our other speakers
were: Nava Dayan from Lipo Chemicals, Brian Chung from Rhodia and
Vivek Subramanian from Unilever. Many thanks to Chris Strack for
organizing this event! In October, Eric Lippay from DSM spoke to us
about snake venom as a biomimetic model for the treatment of skin
wrinkles. Our final meeting of the year in November was given by Ed
Matson from Carrubba, who discussed “Natural Aromatics for Personal
Care”.
We tried to have speakers cover a wide variety of topics and I hope
that everyone found our meetings to be both interesting and
informative. I would like to thank everyone that made 2011 a great
year for the CT-SCC. Our board members, our speakers, everyone who
has attended our events….we wouldn’t be the great chapter we are
without all of you! I have truly enjoyed my time as CT-SCC Chair and
I am leaving the chapter in terrific hands. Chris Strack, our new Chair
in 2012, is already hard at work preparing the 2012 program. He will
be supported by John Mahon as Chair Elect (Hey wait, wasn’t he just
the Chair last year!!!). Judy Quinby (Treasurer) and Luisa Taddeo
(Secretary) have made huge contributions to our chapter and we are
fortunate that they will remain in their positions in 2012. Thank you
to the rest of the board, I am appreciative of all of your help and
grateful to get to work alongside all of you. All of my best in 2012!
