Companies, Inc. is currently recruiting for a Principal Scientist.

Neutrogena Corporation develops, manufactures and markets
premium skin and hair care products sold worldwide and
recommended by medical professionals. The product line includes
bar and liquid cleansers, shampoo, hand cream, body lotion, facial
moisturizers, sun protection and cosmetics, as well as other hair
and skin care products recommended, used and prescribed by
dermatologists.

Under minimal supervision of management the Principal Scientist
will develop novel skin care product formulations to meet
specified market/consumer needs.  They will co-develop and
exchange leading edge technologies across J&J operating
divisions.  In addition they will supervise/guide scientists and
technicians.  This candidate will design and develop complex new
product formulations against specified objectives.  Will have
excellent expertise in skin care and sun care product
development experience.  Independently coordinates all technical
and market qualification activities of new product launches to
meet timelines.  Takes initiative to evaluate and champion new
ingredients/technologies that provide superior consumer
benefits.  Meets short and long-term pipeline needs.  Supervises
and or provides technical guidance to technicians and fellow
scientific staff.  Assists marketing in creating and assessing
concepts and evolving claims opportunities based on technical
learning and ingredient function.  Prepares necessary
documentation/presentations to support business status update,
start of production, legal/regulatory compliance, international
product registrations, etc.  Responsible for technical support of
existing products.  Analyzes/interprets complex technical data,
making recommendations to R&D management based on
conclusions.  Supports QA/Operations in diagnosing/problem
solving current business maintenance issues (i.e.; out-of-spec
function results, specification revisions, validation, etc.).  Assists
Process Development in developing manufacturing processes and
transferring technologies to the operational units.

Qualifications:
A BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related
field or science is required.  A minimum of 10 years of consumer
cosmetic industry experience is required.  Extensive formulation
experience in developing cosmetic skin care products is required.  
Experience in developing facial moisturizer treatment would be a
plus.  Thorough understanding of the scientific principles of
formulation, ingredient chemistry and industry trends are
required.  Familiarity with current regulatory requirements in the
skincare industry (OTC and non-OTC) is preferred.  A track
record and the ability to be a high performing individual and a
team player is required.  Excellent project management skills is
required.  Excellent people management skills are preferred.  
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.  
Strong presentation skills are required.  The ability to work
effectively with internal and external customers and colleagues
and in teams is required.  Experience taking initiative in organizing
and completing assignments on time and problem solving is
required.  Experience producing quality results with attention to
detail, excellent follow through, and reliability is required.  Strong
ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and the ability to
be flexible is required.  Leadership ability to train and guide others
would be an asset.  The ability to work in Los Angeles, CA is
required.
